The McLeod Family History
Our Story
O Flower of Scotland,
When will we see
Your like again,
That fought and died for,
Your wee bit Hill and Glen,
And stood against him,
Proud Edward's Army,
And sent him homeward,
Tae think again.
The Hills are bare now,
And Autumn leaves
lie thick and still,
O'er land that is lost now,
Which those so dearly held,
That stood against him,
Proud Edward's Army,
And sent him homeward,
Tae think again.
Those days are past now,
And in the past
they must remain,
But we can still rise now,
And be the nation again,
That stood against him,
Proud Edward's Army,
And sent him homeward,
Tae think again.
Flower of Scotland,
When will we see
your like again,
That fought and died for,
Your wee bit Hill and Glen,
And stood against him,
Proud Edward's Army,
And sent him homeward,
Tae think again

Memories of AuchenCairn
Frosted windows,
Old black stove,
Empty woodbox,
Frozen nose.
Old black cow with teats too small -
Didn't give no milk at all!
"Johnny" horse to snig the wood.
Stoke the fire and cook the food.
Spread the shit and pick the stone;
Walk the plow and feel alone.
Endless hay the summer through -
Always lots of things to do!
Sundays meant for church and all -
Didn't do no work at all!
Sunday school at Roger's Hill
Helped a boring day to fill.
Walk the bridge at Durham so tall;
Show your spirit and never fall!
Endless summer, starlit nights,
Skinny-dips, and water fights.
Stash the grain up in the fall;
Cut the corn to pile and haul.
Never time to cut the wood.
Hunt the deer, and feel so good!
Fill the basement, dark and dry,
Spuds and turnips, Northern Spy
Used for making Christmas pie.
Trudge to school and face the wind.
Turn your back, and home again.
Never falter in the fall
Cos you're sure to have a brawl!
Halloween can cause a fright - Lots of goblins in the night!
Look behind you twice, and then
Run like hell for home again!
Christmas comes with ice and snow;
Old wax candles lit to blow.
Hemlock boughs adorn the wall;
Christmas pudding in the hall.
Old fat hen to dress the plate -
Rap your knuckles so you'll wait!
Brand new pants to last a year,
Socks and mitts and hockey gear.
Comes the spring, snow slow to go,
Bare the knee and bare the toe.
Walk on moss beside the brook,
Tempt the trout with bait and hook.
Life was really simple then --
Love parents, God and other men.
"God is great and God is good,
And we thank Him for our food,
Amen"
